About Apazapan
Apazapan is the main city in the municipality that goes by the same name, a fertile land where corn and bean are sown, located in the heart of Veracruz State. It is settled in the state’s central region, only 65 kms away from Xalapa, the state’s capital. Established 300 meters above the sea level with an average weather of 25 C° annually, this tourist destination is framed by the Apazapan Cliff and the Pescados (or la Antigua) River. This river is one of the main attractions in the area, due to the fact that tourists from all over the world consider this one among their favorite spots to practice exciting rafting sessions.
The ethnic group by the name of totonacas once occupied this land, which ethnic tongue remained active up until the 19th century. During their prime, this region was within the Hernan Cortes domains. Therefore, you may come across ancient buildings that have become an all tourist attraction.
Interesting places to visit include Chichaki, El Bejuco Beach and Carrizal a very popular site due to the hot springs in it. The most traditional festivity is held to honor the Saint Thomas Apostle every July 3rd. Also, we must emphasize the gastronomy tradition in Apazapan: Chicken Tlatonile, Moxcle, Tamale, Grilled Tamale and Shrimp Tlatuni, among others.
About a 100 km range (radius) of this region, you may come across cities and communities of tourist interest such as Xico, Jalcomulco, Coatepec, Veracruz and Xalapa, in Xalapa Veracruz especially, the state’s capital, visitors will discover the Metropolitan Cathedral, The State’s theater Ignacio Llave or the Benito Juarez Park, among others; furthermore it’s a region of coffee scent in the air that grants it great recognition all over Mexico.
